In occasion of FOTOWEEK DC 2012, Studio Gallery celebrates the art of photography with a three-week exhibition titled “Revisited – The Inconstancy of Being.” Time, reinvention, disruption and evolution are at the core of the show. For the occasion, ten prominent photographers have reinterpreted their oldest pieces though the lens of the present, bringing to life “modern twins” of their past work.

Quoting Thomas Hardy, Iwan Bagus, the curator of the show, says: “Time changes everything except something within us, which is always surprised by change.” Mr. Bagus adds: “This is exactly the theme of the exhibition. By re-working an old concept, our photographers approached the same subject differently and pushed it further than before through new techniques, new angles, and, eventually, through new meanings.”

Alongside the arsenal of professors from the photography departments of several metro D.C. universities, the show displays the work of five members of Studio Gallery: Eugene Markowski reflects on a society that worships youth and immortality through the beautiful face of a penitent juxtaposed to skeletal bones; Peter Karp portrays the transformation of joy and sorrow through a wall painting from the former East Berlin; Iwan Bagus captures the transformation of life, while Kat Kronick and Veronica Szalus focus on creating pieces that catch the 'golden feather' of life's essence and explore the phenomenon of physical and metaphysical transition.

From the far-reaching arms of academia to the private eyes of local artists, “Revisited: The Inconstancy of Being” reveals the influence of time over creativity, as well as the evolution of creative talents and the “inconstancy” of artistic inspiration.
