Honfleur & Vivid Solutions FW Exhibits

ARCH Development Corporation, or ADC, is working hard to make the Anacostia section of the District a vibrant arts center. Their two galleries, The Honfleur Gallery and The Vivid Solutions
Print Lab and The Gallery @ Vivid Solutions, plus a third rental venue, Blank Space SE, are helping to promote fine arts and community revitalization through collaboration with community groups.

“ARCH Development, through its various spaces will be presenting several exhibitions for DC Fotoweek, spearheading, in a sense, “Anacostia Fotoweek.” We believe that by providing several exhibitions and ancillary programming it will give visitors a reason to get to know Anacostia and walk around the neighborhood a bit. It will also create some great cultural experiences for area residents to attend right in their own backyard. Fotoweek is such a wonderful platform for ADC to do what it does best for Anacostia while still being a part of the greater DC Art scene. It’s an exciting time in Anacostia.” – Amy Cavanaugh Royce, Director/Vice President ADC

Beth Ferraro, The Creative Director for the Gallery at Vivid Solutions adds, “Fotoweek is an interesting time in DC – first comes the end of summer, fall, Fotoweek and winter. It is almost a new season in DC during that one busy week in November.”

The Honfleur Gallery is hosting Likeness, the brainchild of DC based photographer, Joshua Yospyn. The exhibition will include twenty artists: ten photographers + ten street artists with an end result of ten original portraits + ten interpretations of that portrait. In the final exhibit, the visual/street artists’ will present their interpretation of the original photograph. Visual/street artists and photographers are paired before any visual information is shared and will exhibit their works side by side. By presenting their interpretation alongside the original photographic work the viewer ends up with Likeness.

Artists include: (photographers) Bo Zhang, Chris Usher, David Holloway, Erica Allen, Jason Horowitz, Josh Yospyn, Lois Bielefeld, Joshua Cogan, Matt Dunn, & Michel Frankfurter.
(visual/street artists) Diabetik, Brandon Hill, Decoy, Asad Walker, Matthew Shlian, Lance Wiggs & Buck, Heather Stevens, Earnest Concepcion, Mike Estabrook, and Peter Chang.

Opening Reception, November 11th @ 6pm.
Honfleur Gallery is located at 1241 Good Hope RD. SE WDC 20020

In his solo exhibition Neither… Nor, Vietnamese born artist Khanh H. Le will present 14 large scale images using the multiple plate polymer photogravure etching technique at The Gallery at Vivid Solutions. Le will examine identity, through the bits and pieces of personal memory, the collective history from two cultures; Vietnam and the US.

Le explains, What happens to their (Vietnamese) identities and their contents once they become removed? I slowly placed them in contrast with the images I collected from Better Homes and Gardens, Detail (men’s fashion magazine), GQ (men’s fashion magazine), and Architectural Digest magazines I found at the grocery. I began to place figures from historical images and film throughout all of the living spaces that I have desired since childhood.

Opening reception November 12, 2010 @ 6pm followed by a performance from the contemporary classical group, The Analog Arts Ensemble at 8pm. The group will be performing works by Roussel and Francaix, as well as a world premier by Dolf Kämper.

The Gallery at Vivid Solutions is located at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE WDC 20020.

The performance is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and part of the Honfleur Galleries’ annual social arts initiative.
